Just started my musicology doctoral program at USC last week and have been ramping up my schedule for current and future projects. Testing the waters for my Music and Ethics paper right now, as well as trying to get OK Music project off the ground.

Here’s the posting for our recruitment ad:

OK Music is a group of improvising musicians who specialize in interactive musical performances — similar to what actors might do in an improv comedy, we take theme ideas from audience members and turn them into musical performances!

We’re looking to expand our roster in order to ramp up our rehearsal and gig schedules for this year. Most of our members are freelancers so we’re willing to accommodate schedules with varying time slots.

-Any instrument welcome, even esoteric ones.
-Must be comfortable improvising in front of audiences, in situations with limited (or no) rehearsal times.
-Formal training (classical, jazz, world, etc.) preferred, but not necessary — must be able or willing to learn how to improvise in keys/modes, however.
-Rehearsals will primarily be on the USC campus or the Pasadena/Highland Park/Echo Park area, weekly or bi-weekly.

Check out our media page at okmusic.me to get a sense of our prior performances and output. If interested, contact Ryan at ryangtanaka at gmail.com for more details.
